As is true in human health as well, there are few diseases against which veterinarians and pet owners can protect their patients with vaccines. It thus makes sense to appropriately maximize these critically important and powerful tools. While the prevention of some diseases is virtually universal for our patients, vaccination against other diseases is based on lifestyle and risk assessment. Today's vaccines are largely very safe, and many of our vaccine-preventable diseases are still common, but overcoming owner concerns or full-blown anti-vaccine beliefs can be challenging. This provides opportunity for animal healthcare teams to be better educators for our clients and better advocates for their pets. Finally, when it comes to vaccine selections for your hospital, what do and don't the companies tell you?
