Use Without Abuse: Antibiotic Guidelines

14 May 2020
Clinical Theater 1
Infectious Disease

Antimicrobials are critically important drugs, but are prone to misuse, overuse (and sometimes underuse). Antimicrobial treatment guidelines can help optimize use of these drugs to maximize patient benefits and minimize risks and costs. This presentation will outline important guidelines and use a case-based approach to discuss antimicrobial selection.

  • 1) To identify clinical antimicrobial use guidelines
  • 2) To recognize key factors that must be considered when choosing an antimicrobial
  • 3) To consider how current practices can be modified to optimize antimicrobial use.
